Young Adult Counseling

From graduating High School to entering College or the workforce, transitioning to young adulthood is difficult. Factors that make this transition even more difficult are things such as:

Lack of Family Support/Homelessness

Not all families are supportive of the choices young adults make and this can often lead to a lack of financial support, or even lead to the young adult not having a regular place to stay. This can be a hard season of life that needs a safe place to get support and resources.

Depression/Anxiety

It's not uncommon to struggle with depression and/or anxiety as a young adult. Life can hit us hard when we are transitioning out of high school. This can be resolved with regular counseling where the young adult learns communication skills, coping skills, self-regulation and insight into their internal world.

Unrealistic Expectations/Adjustment Issues

No matter how much our parents try to prepare us for adulthood, the truth is that nothing can really prepare us for the pressure and reality of being an adult. This can lead to family dependence or what we call "failure to launch".

Family Dependence/Failure to Launch

Sometimes the world just seems too scary to a young adult. When the fear of failure overwhelms them, they will retreat to their safe place, which often is their parent's home. However, not facing their fears and recognizing that they CAN be successful will only keep them stuck in a pattern of dependence.

Trauma

Unfortunately, many young adults come from traumatic backgrounds. When trauma remains unhealed and unprocessed, this can cause a host of issues for the young adult in their endeavors and relationships.

Counseling Helps!

As a young adult, there are so many pressures coming from all different directions. Having someone to confide in as well as someone to help you set goals and achieve them can be the difference between successful and unsuccessful launching into adulthood.
